Regarding the big bailout bill: you know how it goes in Congress by now. The House rejected it on Monday, the Senate added some sweeteners (read: pork) and passed it overwhelmingly and the House, seeing the big meltdown on Wall Street and getting an earful of portfolio-induced panic from their constituents, will now probably pass it as well. Such is life in Congress. One day you’re standing on principle, the next you’re standing in a pool of your own vomit, the next you’re all hosed down, next thing you know you’re doing a 180 and running for the exits. It takes a certain kind of personality (or lack thereof) to pull a stunt like that successfully, so here we are. By tomorrow night, all will be well and everybody will scatter back home to campaign. I’m thrilled beyond measure at how it all turned out.
Meanwhile, the world is watching and they are officially pissed off at us right now, as they should be. If the world is thinking we’ll never let them down again, they better hang on tight. Look what we did to them in ‘00 and ‘04 with the election of Bush/Cheney. Never underestimate the stupidity of Americans, world. Hell, we might even give you the big middle finger again and elect McCain so he can use Sarah Palin as ambassador-at-large to inflict God-knows-what kind of punishment on your sorry asses.
While we’re on the subject of Palin (how’s that for a segue?) and her lack of constitutional knowledge beyond Roe v. Wade, let me point out once again that I think the Left underestimates her at their peril. She’s got that minty-fresh smile and Mentos-Fresh-and-Full-of-Life personality which can disarm her fiercest critics faster than a skeet shooter can yell “Pull!” Smoke on that for a while and you’ll see what I mean.
If she does happen to crash and burn tonight and withdraws herself from the race to spend more time with her special-needs family, about the only thing we’ll have left of her candidacy is the Sarah Palin interview comment generator. Some of that randomly produced bullshit is far better than what we’ve gotten from her so far.
Hopefully, Jesus will find it in his heart to use Sarah for a little bit longer in Alaska rather than the rest of the United States.
